The North York Women's Softball League (NYWSL) promotes the sport of competitive rep softball in Central East Ontario. Our focus is to provide girls and women the opportunity to play softball competitively. Participation, enjoyment and skills development are the core beliefs at our younger player divisions. While promoting competition and personal excellence is our focus within the older divisions.

Long-Term Player Development

Objectives & Expected Level Of Play

Mite U10

Girls may enter the sport from select or house league programs, or with no experience. Focus is on developing overall sport and softball-specific skills, while ensuring a level of fun.

  • Girls aged 10 and Under
  • Fundamental skills development
  • Focus on fun and participation
  • Ensure equal playing time
  • Play modified rules to facilitate learning

Squirt U12

Girls may enter the sport from select or house league programs, or with no experience. Focus is on developing physical capacities and softball-specific skills.

  • Girls aged 12 and Under
  • Softball skills and strategies development
  • General fitness and mental skills training
  • Ensure fair and reasonable playing time
  • Introduction of more advanced rules

Novice U14

Girls may continue in the sport from competitive, select or house league programs. Focus is on developing physical capacities and softball-specific skill. Competitive aspects are added.

  • Girls aged 14 and Under
  • Advanced softball skills for competition
  • General fitness and mental skills training
  • Ensure fair and reasonable playing time
  • Play with full competition rules begins

Bantam U16

Girls continue in the sport from competitive or select softball programs. Focus is on consolidating softball-specific skills and developing fitness at a competitive level.

  • Advanced softball skills and strategies
  • Softball fitness and mental skills training
  • Playing time to optimize team performance
  • Talent identification programs for players
  • Players learn to balance softball and life

Midget U19

Girls continue in the sport from competitive softball programs. Focus is on refining softball-specific skills and developing fitness to sustain high volume and high intensity training.

  • Girls aged 19 and Under
  • Refine fundamental softball skills/strategies
  • Softball fitness and mental skills training
  • Playing time to optimize team performance
  • Talent identification programs for players
  • Players learn to balance softball and life

Over 19

Girls continue in the sport from competitive softball programs. Focus is on optimizing peak performance in competition, OR transition to lifelong enjoyment of recreational softball.
